2025 BVC Keynote Speakers:
Keynote: Peter Buckland
Peter is a Partner, Managing Director and COO at Khosla Ventures, with more than 20 years of experience in Silicon Valley advising founders, entrepreneurs and technology companies. Peter works closely with the investment team and spearheads the firm’s fundraising efforts. He also manages the firm’s operations, including talent, finance, IR, and legal.
Prior to joining KV, he was a partner at WilmerHale LLP, a leading international law firm, where he led the firm’s emerging growth technology practice and built its West Coast corporate practice. During that time he guided the firm’s technology clients through hundreds of financings (public and private), sales, acquisitions and other strategic transactions.
Peter started his career with positions at law firms including Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and Weil Gotshal & Manges.
Peter holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California-Santa Barbara and a J.D. (magna cum laude) from the University of San Francisco.
Keynote: Carl Riccadonna
Carl Riccadonna is the State of Oregon Chief Economist and Head of the Office of Economic Analysis. He has served various Chief Economist capacities on a global scale for over two decades, including at Deutsche Bank, Bloomberg L.P. and BNP Paribas. Carl received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) from Princeton University, where he studied Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, finance and economics.
The teams Carl has led have been highly ranked among economic forecasters in a broad array of categories including monetary policy, labor market dynamics and inflation. Carl takes pride in distilling complex economic analysis into an engaging message for non-economists.
An avid gardener, soccer fan and father of three, Carl is thrilled to have transitioned to the public sector and to have relocated to the Pacific Northwest from the New York City area.
The state chief economist oversees the Office of Economic Analysis within the Department of Administrative Services and provides objective forecasts of the state’s economy, revenue, populations, corrections population and Youth Authority population. These forecasts are used across state government, and by the public for a variety of reasons, notably to inform the state budgeting process.

Company Update: Cassie Abel – Founder & CEO, Wild Rye
Cassie Abel is the founder and CEO of Wild Rye, a B Corp certified women’s outdoor apparel brand dedicated to inspiring confidence and community through beautifully designed technical and sustainable outdoor apparel. Since launching in 2016, Cassie has led Wild Rye from a bold idea to a nationally recognized brand, now sold in leading specialty retailers and beloved by a fast-growing community of women who live, work, and play in the outdoors.
A lifelong skier, mountain biker, and 3x All-American lacrosse player at Colorado College, Cassie founded Wild Rye to fill a gap she experienced firsthand: high-performance, thoughtfully designed apparel made specifically for women. Under her leadership, Wild Rye has achieved rapid growth, landed on the Forbes Next 1000 list, and become a leader in purpose-driven business by prioritizing sustainability, inclusivity, and authentic storytelling.
Cassie is also the founder of Women-Led Wednesday, a national initiative to encourage holiday shopping with women-owned businesses. She has been recognized as the Outdoor Retailer Emerging Leader of the Year in 2023 and was selected as a Tory Burch Foundation Fellow in 2020. Before starting Wild Rye, she spent nearly a decade in brand strategy, communications, and marketing in the outdoor industry working with brands such as Smith Optics and Black Crows Skis.
Cassie lives, rides, and skis in Sun Valley, Idaho, where Wild Rye is proudly headquartered.
